What is Gingham?

Gingham Definition

Gingham fabric is similar to plaid fabrics but has unique defining characteristic that make gingham an easily recognizable – and iconic – shirt fabric. All ginghams have a distinct checkered pattern with equally sized horizontal and vertical stripes that intersect at equal spacings.

Additionally, nearly all gingham fabrics use a white base-layer cloth with bold colored yarns for the stripes. This creates the bright and clean look common in the gingham shirt.
