We’re all for a well made drink but sometimes dropping a bill on enough aged bourbon to feed the guys on Sunday just doesn’t make sense. Now, we think there’s something to be said for the nostalgic, “complex” flavors of Old Crow but the people over at the Food 52 Blog have apparently discovered an interesting way to capture the well-aged tastes without the price.
If You’re Adventurous, Cheating is Easy
According to their experts, “this recipe calls for you to add 1 tablespoon of dry sherry, 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla, and 1/4 teaspoon of liquid smoke to 750 milliliters of budget bourbon. Shake thoroughly. Prepare to be amazed by the smoothness.”
Fake Aged Bourbon? How Does it Taste?
In taste tests, Food 52 found that about 1/3 of testers actually preferred the fake aged stuff over the real deal when poured neat.
In an Old Fashioned, results were a wash. Most testers just liked both versions equally.
We’re still a little skeptical but this may be worth a try based on those results. If you’re interested in trying the 3 Second Aged Bourbon yourself, get the recipe and learn more here.
